QA Engineer I (Automation) – Healthcare AI Automation | Software Quality & AI Testing

About Valene Health

Valene Health is building an AI-native clinical automation platform for healthcare organizations. Our agentic AI workforce helps providers and care teams reduce administrative burden, improve patient communication, and expand care capacity through intelligent automation.

Our platform supports AI voice agents, patient outreach, scheduling coordination, post-discharge follow-up, clinical documentation, care navigation, and other operational workflows. We work with health systems, physician groups, specialty practices, FQHCs, CCBHCs, MSOs, and risk-bearing organizations.

Role Overview

We are looking for an early-career QA automation engineer to help ensure the reliability of Valene Health’s web platform, APIs, and patient-facing voice workflows. You will combine exploratory testing with automated test development and work closely with engineers to catch issues before they affect care teams or patients. This is a technical quality engineering role with substantial hands-on coding—not just executing manual test scripts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute manual, exploratory, and regression testing for new product features.
  • Develop and maintain automated coverage for the web application and APIs, including tests executed in CI pipelines.
  • Validate end-to-end call workflows, from scheduling rules and scripted scenarios to escalations, summaries, and alerts.
  • Test structured data extracted from procedure documents across different types of inputs and edge cases.
  • Document clear, reproducible bugs, partner with engineers on resolution, and verify fixes.
  • Help expand regression suites and introduce evaluations for AI-agent behavior, including missed escalations and unreliable responses.
  • Advocate for release quality and identify product risks early in the development process.

Qualifications

  • Experience testing software manually and through automation, gained in employment, internships, or substantial projects.
  • Ability to develop test code, ideally in JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Understanding of modern web applications, REST APIs, and how to validate them.
  • Comfort with Git, GitHub, pull requests, and continuous integration workflows.
  • Strong attention to detail, clear written communication, and confidence raising quality concerns.
  • A proactive approach to investigating failures and improving test coverage.

Preferred Experience

  • Playwright, Cypress, or similar browser automation frameworks.
  • Postman or other API testing tools.
  • SQL and PostgreSQL for data-level validation.
  • Testing AI systems for hallucinations, unsafe behavior, missed escalations, or inconsistent outputs.
  • Exposure to healthcare software, compliance expectations, or other regulated environments.

What Success Looks Like

  • Automated regression coverage for critical workflows and APIs.
  • Actionable bug reports and timely verification of fixes.
  • High-confidence releases with fewer recurring production defects.
  • Expanded testing approaches for non-deterministic AI and patient-facing voice interactions.
